Centenary Celebrations

We are celebrating the centenary of the Sacred Heart school this year in Scoil Íosagáin. We have marked the centenary in many different ways. On Thursday 21st November 2024 we had a day of celebration for our pupils during school. We welcomed you to an evening of celebrations that began with Mass by Bishop McKeowan in St. Mary’s Oratory at 6.30pm, and the celebrations continued afterwards in the school hall. Ms McLaughlin discussed the preparations for the centenary with John Breslin of Highland Radio. Click on the Highland Radio logo to listen to the interview.

Our school choir have performed a number songs that you can listen to below. An original song, written by past pupil Bernie Doherty, called ‘Fós ag Fás’ has been recorded - this translates to ‘Still Growing’. Ms Andrea McDaid, Louise Kelly (music therapist) and Jim Woods accompanied our choir.

A presentation on the history of the school was created by Mr D Doherty’s Fifth Class. This video also includes some of the displays that the children in each class constructed outside of their classrooms. Each class’ display marks the centenary in a unique way.

One of the biggest projects undertaken was the creation of a book called ‘Sacred Heart School Centenary 1924-2024’. This book is dedicated to the century of children who have passed through the doors of the Sacred Heart building. The book contains stories from past pupils sharing their experiences and memories, photos of classes from various years, artwork and much more. The book can be purchased by contacting the school reception.

A second book is currently being written and will be available next year.

Adam Porter created the video below showcasing Scoil Íosagáin and all of the pupils currently in our school. It truly is wonderful.
